Archelaus was a leading Pontic commander who defended Mithridatic interests in Greece against Sulla.
Historical Significance
His role at Athens, Piraeus, Chaeronea and Orchomenus makes him Sulla’s chief military opponent in the Greek phase of the war.
In Chapter V
Archelaus allows the chapter to show that Sulla’s eastern victories were not inevitable but won against organised and experienced resistance.
