The Peace of Dardanus ended Sulla’s immediate war with Mithridates and allowed him to turn west toward Italy.

Historical Significance

The settlement restored Roman authority but left Mithridates alive. For Sulla it was less a final settlement of the East than a necessary pause before civil war.

In Chapter V

Dardanus shows Sulla’s priorities: he needed victory and resources, but above all freedom to return to Italy with his army intact.
